Vale Del Weston

It is with deep shock and sadness that we've learnt of the tragic deaths of our colleague Del Weston and her husband, Gavin Mooney on Thursday 20th December 2012.

Gavin and Del were retired academics from WA who had a big impact in the areas of social justice, health, climate change and the environment during their all too brief time in Tasmania.

Professor Gavin Mooney was regarded as the nation's leading health economist, who in August this year launched the Social Determinants of Health Advocacy Network.

Del Weston was an active member of Climate Action Hobart's Working Group, and was very passionate and determined on the need for real and urgent action on climate change. She did her PhD at Curtin University in WA. She had been a visiting scholar at the University of KwaZulu Natal in Durban, South Africa, and an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Tasmania in the School of Geography and Environmental Science. She had just recently completed writing a book on the politics and economics of climate change, which is due for publication soon.

She will be greatly missed by us, but her efforts and inspiration will not be forgotten.

Rest in Peace, Del.
