The UN's COP 20 /CMP 10 meetings took place from 1 to 12 December in Lima, Peru. The meeting was intended to draw a so-called "road map" to the Paris 2015 conference which is to set international climate policy for the post-Kyoto years, from 2020. Progress was painfully slow, as usual, with short term national self interest trumping concerted rational & urgent action.

Meanwhile, the World Meteorological Organisation have reported that 2014 was on track to be the equal hottest year on record.

"Provisional information for 2014 means that 14 of the 15 warmest years on record have all occurred in the 21st century," said the WMO secretary-general, Michel Jarraud. "There is no standstill in global warming," he said.
