AMSA/DEA CODE GREEN 2013

Code Green week is a collaboration between Doctors for the Environment Australia and the Australian Medical Student Association (AMSA) Global Health Committee. It aims to raise awareness of environmental issues within the medical student population and provide opportunities for medical students to engage in important environmental health issues. However, all interested members of the public are invited to all events!

We have 4 great events planned for throughout the Code Green week!

Tuesday 17th: DEA Fact & Action Meeting

A chance to make a positive difference right from the get go! This meeting is a group letter writing event concerning BPA usage in food containers. We will discuss and learn about the issue and then take action in the form of a hand written letter to a relevant politician, all concerning the endocrine disruption proven to be associated with BPA contamination in food.

Wednesday 18th: Divestment Forum ( see below)

Join the Tasmanian Divestment group at their public Divestment Forum to hear about the financial risks of fossil fuel investment. Dr. Frank Nicklason will be providing a medical perspective, Stuart Barry a financial perspective and Paul Gilding a sustainability perspective.

Thursday 19th: Film Screening and talk!

See the short film The Tarkine: Saving the last of Gondwana and hear from Dr Phill Pullinger regarding conservation and land management in Tasmania for a healthy population.

Saturday 21st: Bike ride!

Join us for a leisurely bike ride from the Menzies building to Lower Sandy Bay. Hear a representative from Bicycle Tasmania talk about sustainable transport and its future in Hobart once we arrive at Sandy Bay. Bring some snacks!
